Enoteca de Pieve Aldina

Between Tuscan skies and rolling vineyards, Pieve Aldina reveals itself as a timeless hamlet where medieval charm blends with contemporary elegance. Nestled in the heart of the Chianti Classico hills, halfway between Florence and Siena, this XIIᵉ century hamlet invites you on a sensory journey punctuated by Dolce Vita and Tuscan generosity.

"Past the large stone porch, an unexpected island of greenery and freshness of greenery and freshness - a huge wisteria winds from roof to roof climbing roses offer their fragrant bouquet, a parish priest's garden is arranged around a small maze of boxwood... This dialogue between stone and vegetation, indiscernible from the outside indistinguishable from the outside, amazed us.

Summer residence of the Bishops of Siena, a timeless place

This charming hotel is located in Radda-in-Chianti, on the Chiantigiana, the wine route between Florence and Siena. Its various buildings reflect all the characteristics of Tuscan architecture: thick exterior walls, tiled roofs, strong wooden frameworks, brick or granite stone window frames, magnificent stone porticoes and airy interior courtyards.

One of the four mansions, once the summer residence of the Bishops of Siena, is a listed Italian historic monument. The church it backs onto, Santa Maria Novella, is one of the most important Romanesque masterpieces in the Florentine territory, dating from the 10th century and a reminder of the spiritual origins of the place. Restored with the same blond stone, cloisters, porticos and frescoes now interact with a sober, contemporary design.

Four homes, a haven of peace

At Pieve Aldina, we believe in a rejuvenating journey, which is why our rooms have no television, inviting our guests to take full advantage of the peaceful beauty of the Chianti landscape. The meticulous renovation, carried out by Florentine firm Pierattelli Architetture, respected the blue, pink and green stencils of La Pieve's salons, its majestic marble staircase and the neoclassical frescoes of the grand salon d'honneur. Trompe-l'œil baseboards imitating marble, putti and grotesques on the ceilings, acanthus motifs: every detail tells of the refinement of the premises. In the patio, the lemon trees of the parish priest's garden and the large terracotta jars from the XVIIIᵉ century play with the golden light. The other three houses - Il Studiolo, Il Conventino and L'Allegato - feature imposing wooden frameworks and a delicate palette of beiges and browns that diffuse a serene softness throughout the living spaces.

Italian craftsmanship, sustainable design & eco-responsibility

Sustainable heritage renovation

Restored under the careful supervision of Soprintendenza alle Belle Arti, Pieve Aldina is committed to responsible, sustainable luxury hospitality and illustrates a Tuscan vision of slow design, where heritage, ecology and contemporary comfort move forward together. The Florentine studio Pierattelli Architetture brought the frescoes, vaults and medieval stonework back to life, limiting the use of new materials to what was strictly necessary; where these were essential, he chose ultra-local resources - pietra serena, wood from the nearby hills and natural lime - to reduce the site's carbon footprint.

Exceptional craftsmanship,
between heritage and creation

Immerse yourself in the soothing, minimalist and enduring atmosphere of Pieve Aldina, in perfect resonance with travelers curious to discover Italian craftsmanship.

The floors at Relais & Châteaux Pieve Aldina, produced by the famous Tuscan family-owned Cotto Manetti factory in Impruneta since 1780, reflect this dialogue between heritage and creation: each tomette is hand-molded in Impruneta's galestro clay, then fired for 72 hours in a wood-fired kiln. This process, unique to the Chianti region, gives the tiles a chromatic spectrum ranging from antique pink to Sienna red, as well as remarkable resistance to frost and extreme heat. Revisited here in herringbone pattern or Roman opus, these cotto tiles exude a tactile warmth that extends the agricultural landscape of the hills into interior spaces - an authentically Tuscan charm.

This mineral base is matched by sleek, contemporary Italian furniture from Gervasoni 1882: Ghost sofas, Loll armchairs and tables in FSC-certified solid oak, enriched by lighting fixtures by Florentine artisans, Montelupo ceramics and Carrara marble. Washed linen, sandblasted rattan and brushed wood offer a palette of sage, terracotta and ivory in dialogue with the surrounding countryside.

Intelligent glazing & water management

To limit thermal peaks, extensive electro-chromic glazing automatically tints during the hottest hours, improving insulation and reducing energy consumption. The historic roofs channel rainwater to ancient cisterns that irrigate the olive grove and Mediterranean gardens, all cultivated without pesticides.

Protected biodiversity in Chianti

At the heart of these landscaped areas, Pieve Aldina is home to a colony of protected swallows. In accordance with Italian regulations, their nests are untouchable. The architecture has therefore been adapted to integrate these winged guests, symbols of a living ecosystem. This synergy between exceptional craftsmanship, green technologies and wildlife preservation makes Pieve Aldina a benchmark for eco-responsible hotel accommodation in the Chianti Classico region.

Visiting the surrounding area

Less than an hour from Florence and fifty minutes from Siena, Pieve Aldina sits at the heart of Chianti Classico. Take a Vespa or bike ride along the wine route: Radda, Panzano, Castellina and Greve reveal historic cellars and family-run trattorias. Discover the Abbey of Badia a Coltibuono and Castello di Brolio, two historic vineyards where Chianti was born.

The towers of San Gimigranon, the 13th-century fortress of Monteriggioni, the UNESCO panorama of the Val d'Orcia, the spa villages of Bagno Vingoni, the emblematic vineyards (Castello di Brolio, Badia o Coltibuono) and the markets of Siena complete a cultural and gastronomic itinerary to Siena's Piazza de Campo.

Each tour can be organized on a vintage Vespa, e-bike or convertible, with a picnic basket from Le Rondini, the Pieve Aldina restaurant in Radda-in-Chianti.
